Download Trinity Nuclear Test Site MFS 2020 Scenery Mod

The Trinity Site was the location in Southern New Mexico where Robert Oppenheimer and his team detonated the worlds first nuclear bomb, nicknamed “The Gadget.”

Richard Feynman, another key team member later said,

“I returned to civilization shortly after that and went to Cornell to teach, and my first impression was a very strange one. I can’t understand it any more, but I felt very strongly then. I sat in a restaurant in New York, for example, and I looked out at the buildings and I began to think, you know, about how much the radius of the Hiroshima bomb damage was and so forth… How far from here was 34th street?… All those buildings, all smashed — and so on. And I would go along and I would see people building a bridge, or they’d be making a new road, and I thought, they’re crazy, they just don’t understand, they don’t understand. Why are they making new things? It’s so useless.

But, fortunately, it’s been useless for almost forty years now, hasn’t it? So I’ve been wrong about it being useless making bridges and I’m glad those other people had the sense to go ahead.”

The site was decalred a National Historic Landmark on Dec. 21, 1965. This mod includes the obelisk erected at the explosion hypocenter in 1965 by Army personnel using local lava rocks and the fence erected around it. It does not include the insturmentation bunker or “Jumbo” remnants.

A great flight is to start at Alomogordo White Sands (KALM), fly West over White Sands National Park (download my fixes!), and then due North, staying West of the lava floe you’ll find the site above 50nm from White Sands, toward Stallion AAF (95E).

I have not included any LOD meshes for the obelisk, however, it was parametrically modeled with performance in mind and contains only about 60k tris. I may upload an additional LOD as needed if/when Xbox players can download.
